Description

St Helena 1922-37 1½d rose-red, lower left corner block of 4 with plate number '1', showing variety 'Cleft rock' on R5/1 from 22/12/22 printing, SG99/c.

A fine mint positional block of four with original gum (three of the stamps are unmounted mint). Very attractive and scarce in this ideal positional form.

Only a maximum of 1,974 possible.

This definitive issue first released in 1922 was designed by the St Helena-born Postmaster Thomas R. Bruce. It was similar to the 1912-16 pictorials, but instead of the Government House or the Wharf, these stamps showed the badge of St. Helena - a three-masted sailing ship near two large rocks.
