A bottle of Yamazaki 50 year old made $33,190 in Bonhams' auction of Japanese whisky in Hong Kong on August 15, an increase of 35.4% on its $24,511 estimate.

The drink is aged in Mizunara oak barrels and is one of only 150 bottles ever produced, making it Japan's rarest whisky.
The distillery, which is the oldest in Japan, stands on the outskirts of Tokyo and was founded in 1923.
