Rudy Kurniawan wine collection to sell in US auction

A collection of over 4,000 bottles of wine belonging to convicted conman Rudy Kurniawan will be auctioned by US Marshals.

Hospices de Beaune
The sale will include wines from Hospices de Beaune and Domaine de la Romanee Conti

The online sale will be hosted at Gaston & Sheehan and runs until December 8.

All have been thoroughly examined and authorised by experts.

Kurniawan was charged with fraud after it emerged he had been rebottling cheap wines with high end labels. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail in 2013.

Jason Martinez of the US Marshals' asset forfeiture division comments: "It may sound ironic that we are selling wine that belonged to a convicted wine counterfeiter, but we are duty-bound to recoup as much value from the sale of these authentic wines as possible to compensate those who were victims of his fraud."
