As we've reported, Artcurial is presenting a major wine auction in two weeks' time, with the auction's highlights including an impressive eight magnums of classic Bordeaux in an original wooden box from the year 2000.
As the price suggests, the bottles contained within are worthy of most wine experts' 'top 10' lists. Included are two bottles each of the Chateau Latour, Margaux, Pétrus and Haut Brion.
The Margaux 2000, in particular, was once described by the Wine Advocate as "a colossal example of Chateau Margaux." It was awarded 100 points by both the Wine Advocate and the Wine Spectator. In total the magnums carry a €26,000-27,000 ($35,154) estimate.
There are a few other lots which make comparable investments in the 900-odd lot auction however. An excellent choice for those unwilling to spend five figure amounts is the six bottle lot of Chateau Petrus 1995.
This vintage is described by the winemaker as having "incredible power, depth and richness" yet a remarkable balance with penetrating aromas of ripe mulberry, black currant and fruit and spicy vanilla oak. It is often regarded as their best wine since the 1990.
Appearing in its original wooden case, the lot is expected to sell for €5,000-6,000.
Back in the five figure range, DRC lovers who are wondering what the auction has to offer will not be disappointed. There are two 12 bottle lots each containing:
Each lot is listed at €22,000-23,000 in Artcurial's sale which takes place on January 25 in Paris.
