Bonhams' Fine and Rare Wines auction, its first of 2013, realised a total of $1m in San Francisco on March 9, led by a case of 1982 Chateau Lafite Rothschild.

The dozen bottles sold for $35,700, making a 2% increase on the $35,000 high estimate. Following was another 12 bottle case of the 1961 vintage from Lafite Rothschild, which sold for $15,470.
Californian wine was also well represented in the sale, with 12 bottles of the 1975 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon selling for a record $4,165.
