A 114-bottle superlot of Romanee-Conti has sold for $1.5m at Sotheby's Hong Kong, setting a new world record for a single lot at a wine auction.
The collection consists of 19 consecutive vintages of the DRC appellation dating from 1992-2010. It smashed the previous record, set at $1m for 50 cases of 1982 Mouton Rothschild in 2006, by 50%.

A single glass from the collection works out to around $1,700.
Robert Sleigh, head of Sotheby's wine department in Asia, commented: "With an annual production of around 5,000 bottles, it is a rare event to offer 12 bottles of Romanee-Conti, but to offer 114 bottles, spanning 19 vintages is an extraordinary, and most likely, a once-in-a-lifetime event.
"The buyer of this lot will be able to appreciate and compare these ultra-rare wines as they evolve over the coming decades.
"It is only fitting that it has broken the world record to become the most valuable single wine lot ever sold at auction."
A 66-bottle collection of Henry Jayer magnums from the cellar of Netscape founder James H Clark also sold well at the October 3 auction, realising a combined $1m.
