Wallis Simpson Cartier bracelet tops Sotheby's Fine Jewels sale

A sapphire Cartier bracelet owned by Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, sold for £230,500 ($375,138) at Sotheby's Fine Jewels auction in London on December 12.

The duchess had an enormous collection of jewellery

King Edward VIII famously abdicated in order to marry Simpson, an American socialite, as his role as the head of the Church of England did not allow him to marry a divorcee.

The couple went on to live a jet-setting lifestyle - travelling widely across the world.

We have this handwritten and signed letter from Wallis Simpson for sale, penned on her honeymoon with Edward in 1937.
