An FR Journe Tourbillon Souverain d'Egalite provides one of the highlights of a private collection of modern watches at Sotheby's New York today (December 10).

With the collection displaying a "thoroughly modern and masculine aesthetic", the FP Journe watch is valued at $60,000-80,000.
The Tourbillon Souverain d'Egalite was the first watch to incorporate a constant force remontoire (a device that serves as a small secondary power source) in a wristwatch.
Released in 1999, the example at auction is one of five in the collection to feature a tourbillon, with the collector particularly interested in complicated movements.

Leading a fine selection of Panerai watches on offer, a PAM 203 eight-day watch will sell with a $70,000-90,000 estimate. Made in 2005, it is one of just 150 examples produced and a highly sought after model for collectors.
The Royal Oak Offshore Audemars Piguet watch, designed with basketball star Shaquille O'Neal, will also make an appearance, accompanied with its presentation box shaped like a basketball.

With O'Neal's jersey number being 32, the numbers 3 and 2 on the dial are highlighted in red. A classic among basketball fans and watch collectors alike, the watch is estimated to sell for $15,000-25,000.
Also from Audemars Piguet is a Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Carbon Edition wristwatch, which was created to celebrate the Swiss yachting team. Weighing in at only 100 grams, the watch was produced in a limited edition of 1,300 and will sell with a $20,000-30,000 estimate.
