Crescent City's estate sale to offer collectors a valuable mix of jewellery

Set your watch to the ready because come Saturday September 18, at 8am Pacific Time, the two day estate sale at Crescent City Auction Gallery in New Orleans is set to begin.

With bidding expected via the telephone, internet and from those attending, the event is looking set to bring some impressive prices to the US auction house.

And it's jewellery collectors that have the most to look forward to, with a wide range of unique pieces set to come up for sale.


The Tiffany "Camel" Brooch

One highlight is an 18 carat yellow gold Tiffany Camel brooch.

Originally designed by Jean Schlumberger this brooch features a gold textured camel with a special cultured pearl headdress, as well as a cabochon lapis lazuli hump which is contrasted by a circular cut diamond and gold blanket harness.

The leg of the gold Camel is also enhanced by a bezel set oval pink sapphire and is signed by Schlumberger.

Purchased directly from Tiffany & Co by the current owner, this piece comes in excellent condition and carries a pre-auction estimated price of £3,250 - 4,860 ($5,000 - 7,500).

Also sure to attract jewellery collectors, is a unique 14 carat white gold diamond and blue sapphire link necklace.

The piece features each link mounted with two oval shaped sapphires which are in turn flanked by two round diamonds.

The central pendant of the piece includes a pear shaped sapphire surrounded by eight round diamonds and additional sapphires.

The piece currently has a target price of £3,890 - 5,835 ($6,000 - 9,000).

Elsewhere a 14 carat gold handmade diamond and emerald brooch could prove popular. The piece has two large mounted African emeralds with one elongated piece reaching 18 carats, with a small 9mm emerald set at 2.5 carats.

Both of which are topped with various VSI round diamonds. This piece carries an estimated price of £5,185 - 7,780 ($8,000 - 12,000).

Floriform brooch

For collectors with a bigger budget, a lady's 18 carat white and yellow gold handmade Floriform brooch could prove a wise investment.

The piece features a 12.85 carat oval citrine at its centre nestled in "leaves" which are mounted with full cut round VS diamonds, as well as two additional "flowers" featuring full cut rubies.

The piece also has an impressive target price of £9,720 - 16,205 ($15,000 - $25,000).

Similarly impressive, is a mid 20th century platinum diamond ring on offer at the sale. The ring features a 2.03 carat round diamond with baguette diamonds flanking along each side.

Like the Floriform brooch this piece carries an estimated price of £9,720 - 16,205 ($15,000 - $25,000).

Meanwhile the top two jewellery lots in the two day auction could prove most attractive to investors. The first in an 18 carat Bulgari yellow gold necklace.

The Italian jewellers are a world renowned luxury brand and it's easy to see why when looking at this piece. Featuring 224 round diamonds and presented in its original presentation case, the piece is the ideal investment for any Bulgari collector and carries a target price of £12,960 - 19,450 ($20,000 - 30,000)

Yet, the highest valued jewellery piece at the sale is an 18 carat yellow gold, emerald and diamond necklace with matching earrings.

The link necklace features crossed x form links and a centre with diamond shaped links mounted with seven square emeralds that alternate with 6 princess cut diamonds.

The earrings also include a princess cut diamond along with a pendant square emerald that complete a dazzling set. This set is has been given the highest price estimate at the sale with a price of £19,450 - 32,410 ($30,000 - 50,000) attached.

All in all, the two day event promises to be quite a spectacle for jewellery collectors and those looking for entry level investment opportunities.
