A 2.5 inch diamater pocket globe, attributed to Dutch globe maker Johannes Deur, auctioned at Christie's London yesterday, bringing £55,857 ($85,154) - a new world record price for a pocket globe.

The previous world record stood at $37,000. The sale price represents a 123.5% increase on the Lilliputian lot's £25,000 high estimate.
The circa 1760 orb is one of only four known similar examples made by Deur. Two reside in museums, while the location of the third is currently unknown. It depicts California as an island, Canada as bordering Japan and lacks the Antarctic continent.
The globe was offered in its original fish skin case, inlaid with a map of the heavens highlighted in gilt.
