An Escada tie worn by Princess Diana during a visit to Saint Mary's Hospital has sold for £3,800 ($5,970) at Reeman Dansie Auctioneers today (June 18).

The tie is decorated with elephants and can be seen in pictures of the princess during the 1994 visit, in which she saw her newborn nephew, Louis Spencer, for the first time.
It was expected to sell for £2,000-3,000, but the enduring popularity of the People's Princess at auction ensured a 26.6% increase on this estimate.
