Kurt Cobain’s Hagstrom guitar to sell for charity

Kurt Cobain’s Hagstrom blue sparkle deluxe guitar is selling on eBay, with the proceeds set to go to Portland based charity Transition Projects.

The auction will run from February 16-26. It's being held to celebrate what would have been Cobain’s 50th birthday (on February 20).

The guitar has been modified to be played left handed

Cobain owned the guitar from 1992 until his death in 1994.

He had it adapted to be played left handed.

After his death, partner Courtney Love gave it to a friend - an unnamed Seattle grunge alumni.

Later it passed into the collection of Nathan Fasold, owner of Portland boutique Black Book Guitars.

Sam Bright, eBay’s senior director of art & collectibles, said: “Bringing this unique piece of memorabilia to the eBay marketplace is an amazing opportunity for our 167 million active shoppers.

“Connecting fans with authentic and rare collectibles like Cobain’s Hagstrom Blue Sparkle Deluxe is at the heart of eBay’s mission.

“The guitar represents the significant impact Nirvana continues to have on American rock history.”

There is no estimate available for the lot, but it’s rare to see Cobain’s guitars come to auction and those that do tend to achieve high prices.

Take his Mosrite Gospel Mark IV guitar, which sold for $131,000 at Heritage Auctions in 2006.
