Fashion journalist Suzy Menkes has announced that 80 items of clothing from her personal wardrobe will be sold by Christie's in an online-only auction.

The sale will run from July 11-22, with the OBE-awarded UK journalist stating: "I have never thrown anything out of my wardrobe since 1964. If I had a large open space in my home, I would dedicate it, like an art gallery, to my collection.
"But there is something sad about clothes laid in a tomb of trunks. They need to live again and this auction provides the opportunity for them to walk out in the sunshine, to dance the night away and to give someone else the joy that they gave to me."
While estimates start at around ?200 ($301), the top of the pile will see an Yves Saint Laurent cocktail jacket from his 1980 collection "le soleil" sell with a ?1,000-2,000 ($1,508-3,017) valuation.
PFC Auctions is currently offering a range of celebrity-owned vintage clothing, including a bustier worn by Marilyn Monroe and two pairs of Margaret Thatcher's shoes, as well as Lady Gaga's acrylic fingernail.
