Lord Nelson’s grog chest to star in upcoming sale

A travelling grog chest belonging to the great British admiral Lord Nelson will appear in Sotheby’s Of Royal and Noble Descent auction in London on January 17.

It’s valued at £45,000 ($59,175).

Nelson grog chest

The glasses are engraved "Vic" in reference to HMS Victory

The velvet-lined chest is outfitted with a set of decanters, glasses and a beaker.

These appear to have been added at different times. The decanters were made in continental Europe around 1800 while the (much older) wine glasses are English.

The sale will also feature a fragment of the Union Jack that flew over the Victory during the Battle of Trafalgar.

We have some extraordinary Nelson memorabilia for sale, come and take a look.
