Bat Masterson's pocket watch to beat $15,000

A pocket watch presented to Wild West lawman, gunslinger and raconteur Bat Masterson is offered at RR Auction on July 13.

It's expected to sell for in excess of $15,000.

Masterson, something of a local celebrity, received the watch for winning Dodge City's most popular man competition on July 4, 1885.

He was also awarded a gold watch with a chain and a gold topped cane.

It's inscribed: "To W. B. Bat Masterson, from the Citizens of Ford Co."
