1853 slave lading bill features at Alexander Historical Auctions

An 1853 bill of lading for a slave shipped between Baltimore and New Orleans is estimated at $800-1,200 in Alexander Historical Auctions' September 10 sale.

The document reads in part: "Shipped by C. T. Maddox in and upon the good Barque Pamphylia whereof is master for the present voyage Dan'l. Shedd now riding at anchor in�ǪBaltimore and bound for New Orleans�Ǫ

"One slave named Thomas Bishop�Ǫto be delivered at�ǪNew Orleans�Ǫ(the dangers of the Seas, and unavoidable escapes excepted�ǪMessrs Kendall Yoe & Co�Ǫ.paying freight for the said slave Twenty dollars�Ǫ"
