Saddle Ridge hoard withdrawn from Amazon

A single lot of 14 coins from the Saddle Ridge hoard has been pulled from Amazon.com, where it was listed for $2.7m, in order to allow interested parties to make individual bids.

Saddle Ridge Hoard
The hoard is the largest treasure trove ever discovered on American soil

Among the specimens taken down was an 1866-S Coronet, No Motto double eagle - which is valued in excess of $1m alone.

The hoard, estimated at around $10m, was discovered in February this year in the hills surrounding Sacramento.

While the origin of the coins remains a mystery, some have claimed that they may have been stolen from the San Francisco Mint at the turn of the century.
