One of the finest collections of silver coins, that of Eugene H Gardner, will be sold through Heritage Auctions across four auctions, taking place in New York in both 2014 and 2015.

The first auction will be held on June 23, with another to follow in October.
Started when Gardner was a student in 1954, the collection includes rarities such as the 1795 with pole half cent (MS61), 1802 half dime (XF65) and the 1796 JR-1 dime, of which only three or four are known in pre-cud die state.
"I see these auctions as the culmination of a gratifying and absorbing collecting career," said Gardner. "It allows me to introduce my largely-completed collection to the numismatic fraternity, which is very exciting to me.
"I love the thought of sharing the auction experience with my family. We've really all been in this together. In fact, my grandchildren know how to get my attention by just saying, 'Opa, what new coins do you have?'"
Gardner, now 78, is a founder of the investment advisory firm Gardner Russo & Gardner.
Heritage Auctions saw great success with another single-owner collection in November 2013, when it offered the Eric P Newman collection in New York.
