Michael Schumacher's 1998 Ferrari F300 has sold for $1.7m at Barrett-Jackson's January 18 Scottsdale auction in Arizona.
The F300 was a major leap forward for Ferrari
The car features an exceptional history, having been raced extensively in its year of production. It placed first in six races and in the top three in 11.
The revolutionary design of the car was highly influential, with subsequent generations of F1 cars adopting the top-exiting exhausts that proved highly efficient in terms of cooling and aerodynamics.
Schumacher was recently injured in a skiing accident, and is now described as being in a stable condition in hospital.
