A 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Series 1 Cabriolet sold for $6.1m at Gooding & Company's Scottsdale auction in Arizona on January 17.
It achieved an increase of 23.2% on an estimate of $5m.

Only 40 examples of the Series 1 Cabriolet, which features coachwork by Pinin Farina, were ever produced - and the car is widely regarded as the apex of Ferrari's collaboration with the company.
John "Buck" Fulp and Robert Donner Jr, two racing drivers who achieved a string of victories throughout the 1960s, have both owned this example - and it has been a regular feature of the Colorado Grand rally in recent years.
Ferrari has seen strong results at this year's series of Scottsdale auctions, with a 1966 275 GTB/ 6C achieving $2.6m and a 1951 212 Berlinetta Export making $3.1m.

Essentially a highly evolved version of the McLaren F1, itself a hugely successful road car, the GTR was created following the formation of the BPR Global GT Series in 1994 - which required manufacturers to modify existing sports cars into race cars.
The first iteration was developed in 1995 and achieved the high speed record for the year at Le Mans. 10 Longtails were built in 1997. They are named for the extended rear, which was designed to maximise down force.
The example sold was driven by Steve Soper and JJ Lehto in its year of production, achieving a total of four podium appearances in five FIA GT championship races.
