Rare 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback coming to auction

A 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback, the first candy apple red Boss 429 ever built, is coming to auction in the US on May 18.

The car will be among the most hotly contested vehicles at the major car auction, which runs from May 15 to 20 in Indianapolis.

The vehicle is the 38th of the hand-built Red Boss 429 prototypes built, and as such comes equipped with a rare early 820-S engine, which utilised NASCAR specification heavy-duty rods.

Can the Boss beat the $200,000 mark?

The first 15 vehicles were test cars, making this one the 23rd to be offered to the buying public.

"It was rotisserie restored in 2009 by Randy Roberts of Muscle Car Restorations, Inc and detailed by Boss expert Ed Meyer," states the auction house.

No estimate has been provided for the superb vehicle, but recent auction results suggest it could nudge $200,000 - another 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback made $146,590 at auction in 2005.

The original Spring Classic Auction will also feature a dragster once raced by "TV" Tommy Ivo. The car was first seen at the 1974 NHRA Winternationals.

Petrol heads will be keen to take a look at these Jim Clark racing gloves, worn by the Formula One star during practice for his last F1 grand prix, which are currently auctioning at PFC Auctions.

Classic car values rose by 4.23% in March compared with February, according to the HAGI Top 50 Index, the Historic Auto Group's price index of leading classic cars.

The strong showing helped propel the index to a 6.66% increase for the first quarter of the year, figures that offer investment-minded car collectors considerable encouragement.
