Mercedes-Benz classic cars up 3.5% in value in January

The figures from Historic Auto Group International's (HAGI) Mercedes-Benz Classic Index reveal a strong start to the year for the marque.

Mercs, such as this 1957 300Sc Cabriolet, are rising in value

Tracking the price performance of more than 30 collectible-grade models, the index is a new addition to HAGI's suite of classic car indices, which include its sector-wide HAGI Top, which posted a 5.6% rise in the first month of the year, following a standout performance for classic cars in 2012.

The coming weeks will be a further test for the Mercedes-Benz market, with two major sales of the rare and much coveted Gullwing model.
