A collection of cars used by Scotland's famed Ecurie Ecosse racing team has sold at Bonhams in London, led by a stunning Jaguar C-Type from 1952.

Painted in the team's trademark Flag Blue and raced by Jimmy Stewart and Sir James Scott-Douglas, the C-Type sold for £2.9m ($4.7m) on December 1. This was followed by a 1956 Jaguar D-Type "shortnose" raced by Ron Flockhart, which sold for $2.5m ($4.2m).
Also starring was the spectacular Ecurie Ecosse 1960 Commer TS3 three-car transporter in fully restored and roadworthy condition, which made £1.7m ($2.9m).
Ecurie Ecosse was established by racing driver David Murray and mechanic Wilkie Wilkinson in 1952, and initially entered into Formula One and Formula Two races. However, it is best known for consecutive victories in both 1956 and 1957's 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Jaguar D-Type.

Elsewhere in the auction Ringo Starr's rare French grand tourer, the 1964 Facel-Vega II, sold for £337,500 ($552,214), comfortably meeting its £300,000-350,000 estimate.

The first production right-hand drive Aston Martin 4.2-Litre DB4GT Sports Saloon, made all the more desirable by its 1959 production date, which makes it eligible for illustrious historic races and events, sold for £1.5m ($2.5m).
