Pierce four cylinder
The 1910 Pierce Four was the first four cylinder motorbike

Built in Buffalo, New York it was the world's first four cylinder motorbike. Only a handful remain.

Another example sold for £54,300 at Bonhams in 2011.

The consignor is the Lonati family, who have been collecting rare American motorcycles for the past 60 years.

Other highlights include a 1930 Indian 1,265cc Model 402 four-cylinder Combination, estimated at £40,000-50,000 ($62,048-77,560).

A 1920 Harley-Davidson Model J, valued at £18,000-24,000 ($27,921-37,228), is also offered.

Ben Walker, Bonhams' international director of motorbikes, comments: "This is an incredibly rare find; 60 fantastic collectors' motorcycles, all carefully stored in the Brescia based private museum of entrepreneur and CEO of the Santoni Group, Tiberio Lonati.

"Mr. Lonati loved what motorcycles represent, 'complete freedom', the open road, something highly synonymous with US motorcycle marque, Harley-Davidson - which is perhaps why he had so many."
