Andy Warhol's portrait of hockey star Wayne Gretzky will provide some of the top bids in Sotheby's Contemporary Art Day Auction on October 18 in London.

The piece is signed and dated '83 by Warhol, and is expected to see between £80,000 and £120,000 ($124,400-186,600).
The painting comes as a result of the efforts of gallery owner Frans Wynans, who used his connections in New York to arrange for Gretzky and Warhol to meet. It is reported that Wynans is now considering bidding on the present lot.
Another example of the work sold for $390,000 at Christie's in 2007.
The sale precedes the auction of two major Warhol works this November, with Christie's offering Coca-Cola (3) and Sotheby's selling Silver Car Crash. Each has a $60m estimate.
