Jan Van Goyen's The Cunera Tower, Rhenen was the star lot of Grogan and Company's October 13 auction in Massachusetts, achieving $80,000 against a $3,000-5,000 estimate - an increase of 1,500%.
Van Goyen (1596-1656) was a prolific landscape painter of the Dutch golden age, with around 1,200 canvases attributed to him.
Last year, a winter landscape by the artist sold for £657,250 ($1m) against an £150,000-180,000 ($240,450-400,750) estimate.

Two paintings by Alexander Calder were also on offer, each selling as a single lot. The first, an untitled gouache on paper, achieved $72,500 against a $20,000-30,000 valuation - up 141%.

The second work, titled Eastham, achieved $60,000 over an identical estimate.
Calder (1898-1976) was one of America's greatest modern artists, best known for his kinetic artworks. The record price for his work remains $18.6m for Lily of Force, set last year.
Calder's Maripose mobile will auction at Bonhams New York next month, with a $1.2-1.6m estimate.
Jewellery featured at the auction with a platinum, emerald, onyx and diamond ring achieving $36,000 against a $2,000-3,000 estimate - up 1,100%.
It featured a large central cabochon emerald and was likely designed by Cartier.
Three drawings by Italian old masters, dating to before the 18th century, made $17,000 against a $400-600 estimate - up 2,733%.
An Aldo Thompson Hibbard painting also performed well, making $17,000 over a $5,000-8,000 valuation - an increase of 112.5%.
Hibbard's work has sold well in the past, with a winter landscape making $75,000 over a $25,000-35,000 estimate at Skinner last year.
