![]() Emin's neon signs are some of her best-selling works, with this example making £46,850 ($73,133) at Christie's in 2012 |
The artist had originally donated one of her canvas paintings to the sale, which made £8,000 ($12,169).
However, as bidding closed on this lot, she surprised the crowd by jumping on the stage and offering the chance to own one of her neon signs, which will be made in the buyer's colour of choice and read, "now love is for you".
In total, the sale raised £375,000 ($571,043). Those who still want to donate to the cause can do so in the charity's silent auction, whcih accepts bids by text message, until March 27.
