Roy Lichtenstein’s seminal sculpture Woman: Sunlight, Moonlight will star in a May 18 New York sale of contemporary art at Phillips.
The sculpture is made from painted bronze
It’s offered with an estimate of more than $10m.
While he’s best known for his comic book-influenced paintings and prints, Lichtenstein also produced a number of sculptures using his distinctive aesthetic.
This one consists of two busts constructed from painted bronze.
It’s one of seven examples (including an artist’s proof). The majority are in permanent museum collections.
The record for a Lichtenstein at auction is $95.4m, set for a painting titled Nurse in 2015.
