Still life with fruit, an oil on canvas painted and dated 1910 by avant-garde Russian artist Ilya Mashkov is expected to bring £1.5m ($2.3m) to Christie's London on June 3.

The sale will be the masterwork's first appearance at auction, having recently been rediscovered.
Mashkov's Still Life with Plant and Fruit sold for $700,000 at Heritage Auctions in November 2008.
Mashkov was a prominent member of the Knave of Diamonds artistic set, which was founded in Moscow in 1910. Works by the group's members demonstrate their interest in experimenting with form and style.
Integrating folk art motifs with fine art techniques, the Knaves have been labelled Russian primitivists by critics.
