Archduke of Austria portrait priced at $6,200

A number of bargain items are still available to collectors in the wake of auction house Rago's recent Great Estates sale.

Among the passed items is a historic oil on canvas of Ferdinand Von Habsburg, Archduke of Austria and Duke of Tuscany.

Painted by Martin Der Meytens (Swedish, 1695-1770), the framed 25" x 31 1/2" portrait is for sale priced $6,200.

For a savvy collector, this painting could prove to be a good appreciating art investment from the more obscure annals of history.

Other recent star items at Rago include this ebonised Italian collectors' cabinet from the 19th century. It sold for almost ten times its lower pre-sale estimate.

The pietra fronted cabinet realised a remarkable final hammer price of $24,400, on March 20.
