Silver brandywine bowl from 1690 could make $250,000

A silver brandywine bowl dating to 1690 could make $150,000-250,000 at Christie's Important American Silver auction in New York on January 23.

One of just 23 known examples, the six-panelled bowl bears the mark of Cornelius Vander Burch - an early Dutch immigrant to the United States.

The silver bowl was produced by Cornelius Vander Burch, a Dutch-American silversmith

The bowls were produced for drinking a concoction of brandy and raisins at ceremonial events such as weddings, a custom that the settlers brought with them from the Netherlands.
