A rare Martin & Brothers Wally Bird tobacco jar was among the highlights at Morphy Auctions' August 30-31 sale in Denver.
The lot sold for $21,000, an increase of 40% on a $15,000 estimate.

Martin & Brothers jars are highly sought after by collectors in spite of their grotesque appearance. Earlier this year a pair sold at Morphy for $35,000.
The brothers opened their workshop in London during the latter part of the 19th century and operated until the start of the first world war.
