  • A 1954 Royal Christmas card hand signed by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip

Queen Elizabeth II (1926 -2022) was the Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms.

She married her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (1921 - 2021) in 1947, and ascended the British throne in 1952.

She was Britain's longest-reigning monarch, spending 70 years on the throne, and the longest-serving female head of state in recorded world history.

This superb vintage Christmas card was sent out in 1954, just two years after Elizabeth II was crowned Queen.

The card measure approximately 8" x 7" (16" x 7" when opened) and is in excellent condition.

The family portrait features the Royal couple with their young children Prince Charles and Princess Anne on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

The front cover of the card is blank, save for the Queen's embossed Royal crown crest.

The card is hand-signed by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in black fountain pen ink directly beneath their portrait.

Both signatures are crisp, clear and unfaded.

The positioning of their signatures below the image makes this card an ideal display piece.

Provenance: The card was originall owned by Edward Halliday CBE, the renowned Royal portrait artist.

Halliday painted several official portraits of the Queen throughout her life.

He also painted members of the Royal family including Prince Philip and a young Prince Charles, and notable figures such as Winston Churchill.

Today Halliday's work can be found in the National Portrait Gallery, the National Maritime Museum and the Parliamentary Art Collection.
