This stamp commemorated the Pitcairn Islands’ transition to decimal currency, featuring a striking maritime design of a Pitcairn Island longboat ferrying locals across turquoise seas. This encapsulated a vital symbol of island life and community connection.
This is a celebrated missing colour error, where the deep brown ink used to print the row of seated figures on the longboat was completely omitted during printing.
The result is a dramatic visual void where people should be, giving the boat a ghostly, deserted appearance. This key colour omission creates a highly noticeable and collectable visual error.

Fewer than 60 examples are believed to exist in any condition. A significant proportion show minor handling defects, making premium-quality unmounted mint examples particularly scarce.
