Oliver Hardy was an American comedian and acotor, most famous for being one half of the popular comedy duo, Laurel and Hardy. One of the most popular comedians of all time, and a central figure in the highly collectible Hollywood silent era, any item from Oliver Hardy is coveted by collectors.
This 28 page softbound copy of California Supreme Court Case #13874 has been autographed by Hardy in black ink on the top right hand corner of the front cover.
The document, which features some light toning and handling wear, covers Hardy's ex-wife's follow-up suit for more alimony following their divorce. Within the document, Myrtle Lee Hardy (who divorced Hardy in 1936) claims that Oliver had fallen short on the yearly payments that had been agreed upon in the original divorce case.
The judge concluded that Hardy was not liable for any additional alimony. Just a few years later, Hardy fell in love with script girl Virginia Lucille Jones, and they were happily married until his death in 1956.
An excellent document providing an insight into the private life of one of America's best loved comedians.
