New Zealand 1941 2d on 1½d purple-brown, lower marginal positional block of 4 with part imprint, lower left stamp (R10/10) showing variety 'Inserted 2', SG629a.
A very fine mint block of four with original gum. Most importantly, the rare variety is very fine and unmounted mint.
A very scarce positional piece almost never seen so fine.
The 'Inserted 2' is one of New Zealand's best-known surcharge varieties. During overprinting, the original '2' in the surcharge at Row 10, Position 10 became damaged. To conserve paper, the defective figure was drilled out and replaced with a new '2', with the affected sheets subsequently receiving a second overprinting.
