Malaya – Johore 1884–86 2c Pale Rose, Type 5 Overprint (SG5)
An outstanding example of this important early Johore overprint and a key rarity.
The 1884–86 2 cents pale rose, Straits Settlements stamp with Type 5 "JOHORE" overprint (notably with wide H and E, measuring 16¾mm long), SG5.
A fine mint example with large part original gum with lovely fresh colour and bold overprint.
A notoriously difficult stamp to find in this condition.
Provenance: Ex. renowned Bloch and Isleham collections.
Prior to 1 January 1889, mail for addresses outside Malaya had the external postage paid by the stamps of the Straits Settlements. All overprints and surcharges were applied by the Government Printer, Singapore.
