Lord Mountbatten was the second cousin of Queen Elizabeth II and an uncle to Prince Philip. He was Supreme Allied Commander in South East Asia during the Second World War and later served as Viceroy of India, First Sea Lord and Chief of Defence. He was assassinated by the IRA in 1979.
This is a signed portrait of Lord Mountbatten in an 8.2 x 11 inch blue leather frame by Jarrolds of Knightsbridge, London. At the top is the symbol of the Order of the Garter – an elite organisation whose members are chosen by the British monarch.
Below is Mountbatten’s signature: "Mountbatten of Burma". The ink in the “M” of “Mountbatten” has oxidised somewhat but remains perfectly legible.
