GREAT BRITAIN 1878 ½d Plate Proof for Lighter and More Fugitive Colours, SGDP68d
A very fine unused, with original gum, imperforate top marginal pair, lettered 'AA–AB', printed from plate 20 in deep blue green on watermarked paper. Just touched at right, but overall extremely attractive and fresh.
This proof represents an important experimental phase in the quest for lighter and more fugitive ink formulations, making it highly significant to philatelic study and exhibition.
Only a very limited number of these plate trials are known to have survived, making this pair particularly rare and desirable.
Provenance: Ex. Largentiere Maximus.
