Description

Great Britain 1872 chestnut plate 12, SG124.

A very fine used example of this rare "Abnormal" lettered FB, neatly cancelled by a superb Liverpool "466" numeral.

The chestnut shades are referred to as "abnormals" (from sheets printed with the imprimatur, registered 22 April 1872). The stamp was put to press in buff on October 1872. Used examples prior to this were either chestnut or pale chestnut.

As it was in circulation for such a short period, used examples are rare.

Accompanied with a 1983 British Philatelic Association (BPA) Certificate of Authenticity.

The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value is £3,800.
