An Apollo 14 signed launch cover from the personal archive of Edgar Mitchell.
An official Apollo 14 'insurance' cover signed by U.S astronaut Edgar Mitchell.
Postmarked with the launch date of the Apollo 14 mission - January 31, 1971.
Neatly signed by Mitchell in blue ball-point pen, and inscribed in his hand "official crew cover from personal collection".
In very fine condition.
Mitchell was the lunar module for the Apollo 14 mission, and became the sixth man to walk on the Moon, on February 5, 1971.
The crew members each took these postal covers into pre-flight quarantine, to be signed and sent to their wives after they launched.
The covers were a financial 'insurance' to provide for their families in case the worst happened.
Some were intentionally left blank, and signed once the astronauts had returned safely to Earth (including this copy).
This cover remained in Edgar Mitchell's personal collection from 1971 until 1999, when it was de-accessioned for collectors.
A highly desirable Apollo 14 cover with outstanding astronaut provenance.
