An attractive set from the Chinese Civil War inflation period.
Between March and April 1949 inflation of the Gold Yuan currency became so rapid that it was no longer possible to print stamps to keep pace with it. Stamps were therefore produced to be sold at the rate of the day for the service indicated, referred to as "Unit" stamps.
Owing to the collapse of the central administration in face of the advance of the Communist armies, stamps were overprinted by the local administrations temporary labels were also used.
