From the hand of Agatha Christie, the Queen of crime fiction.
An Agatha Christie handwritten and signed letter dated August 29, 1971.
The self-contained airmail letter measures 6 x 8.25 inches and is in fine condition.
The letter is addressed from Winterbrook House, the country house in Oxfordshire where Christie lived for 42 years, from 1934 until her death in 1976.
Christie writes in response to a request for a signed photograph from fans in Austria. Her reply reads in full:
“Thank you for your letter – I do not have any pictures or photographs to send. It is not necessary for authors as their books are their offerings to their public – not their own personality like actors or politicians. I will put an autograph in a space at the bottom of this letter which I hope will do instead.”
Christie signs the note with her initials “A.C”.
In the return address section on the reverse Christie has added her full signature “Dame Agatha Christie” in crisp blue ball-point pen.
A very good signature from one of the most influential and best-selling authors in literary history.
