The Duke of Edinburgh’s great passion in a signed, authored carriage driving book
A copy of Competition Carriage Driving by HRH Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh, signed “Philip” and accompanied by a letter, date May 11, 2005, gifting the book to Caroline at J A Allen, the book’s publishers.
Prince Philip was a keen horseman throughout his life and a successful, pioneering carriage driver, who is considered a foundational figure for the sport.
He is credited as author of 14 books, but perhaps the most personal and passionate are those concerning carriage driving, a discipline in which the Prince was a crowned European champion.
The book is somewhat rare in its own right, and the signature makes it a significant Royal item, reflecting the life of Queen Elizabeth II’s lifelong companion and the father of King Charles III.
