Great Britain 1860 1½d rosy mauve Plate 1, SG53a
A very fine and fresh unused with original gum example lettered 'LB' A lovely example of this rare stamp that was prepared for use but never issued. Owing to a proposed change in postal rate, 1½d stamps were first printed in 1860 in rosy mauve, but the change was not approved and the greater part of the stock was destroyed. Despite this, there are three or four postally used examples which have been recorded. SG catalogue value: £4,500.
