This 1996 printing (NY: Warner Books) of the 560 page, 6.5” x 9.25” novel Encounter with Tiber is handsomely signed on the title page by Buzz Aldrin in blue felt-tip pen.
The volume is in fine condition and has an “Autographed by the Author” label on the front dust jacket.
Buzz Aldrin is one of three men who flew the first crewed mission to the Moon aboard Apollo 11. He is the last survivor of the first Moon mission and was 95 in 2025.
Aldrin, born 1930, was the second man to walk on the Moon. Of all the NASA Astronauts Buzz most embraced his status as a public figure and had a lively, sometimes difficult post-mission career.
He left NASA in 1971, after spending a total of more than 12 days in space. His subsequent autobiographies recounted struggles with depression and alcoholism after the highs of his Moonwalk fame.
From 1996 to 2000 he published two science fiction novels with author John Barnes, this title (concerning alien civilisations) and 2000’s The Return.
This is an unusual and fascinating artefact of one of the biggest characters in the Space Age.
