Description

  • A photograph of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) signed by both in 1937
  • A young Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret also feature

Albert Windsor married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1923. He was the second in line to the throne, after his older brother, Edward. However, in 1936 Edward abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson. Albert was forced to take the throne in his place and was crowned George VI.

His reign was defined by the second world war and the rapid decline of the British Empire that followed. Elizabeth and George’s eldest daughter, Elizabeth II, sits on the throne today. She is Britain’s longest reigning monarch.

This striking 8.25 x 10 inch portrait of the royal family was taken by society photographer Dorothy Wilding in 1937 - the year of George's coronation.

The surface displays an attractive vintage matte finish. It’s fixed to an 11.4 x 8.7 inch mounting board, where the royal couple have signed and dated in black fountain pen at the bottom.

This is a handsome piece with huge eye appeal. Its size makes it ideal for display in a frame.
