Description

Great Britain 1841 Postal Notice.

A very fine complete example bearing a 1d red brown PIate 5, a 2d trial with blank corner letters (DP43) from the small trial plate of twelve and two 1d pink envelope overprinted "SPECIMEN" in red, sent by E.S. Lees from the General Post Office Edinburgh.

An exceptionally clean and fresh example and very unusual to bear a stamp from plate 5, most examples coming from plate 10.

A scarce and important piece of early British Postal History, being one of the most contested parts of the market at the moment. An exhibition quality example of this rare notice originally produced to inform Postmasters of the forthcoming new issues.
