Description

Australia British Commonwealth Occupation Force 1946-48 6d purple-brown, lower left corner block of 8 (4x2) with 'McCRACKEN' imprint, showing variety 'Wrong fount 6' on top right stamp (R9/4), SGJ4a.

A fresh and fine quality multiple with large part original gum, (four of the stamps are unmounted including, most importantly, the variety).

These stamps were used by the Australian forces occupying Japan after the Second World War. Initially their post offices supplied unoverprinted Australian stamps, but it was decided to introduce the overprinted issue to prevent currency speculation.

A fine and scarce positional multiple.

The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value is £503+.
