Rare 1959 Christmas card signed by Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh
Fine condition 1959 Royal Christmas card signed in fountain pen by “Philip” (Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh) and “Elizabeth R, 1959” (Queen Elizabeth II).
This attractive card, 15.7” by 5.7” opened, shows the Royal couple with their first two children Prince Charles and Princess Anne at Balmoral Castle, the family’s Scottish country property.
An appealing photograph shows the Royals as a close and affectionate family unit. 1959 was a busy year for Queen Elizabeth II who hosted a number of heads of state during the year. At Christmas, she recorded her address to the nation for broadcast by radio while she prepared for the birth of her third child, Prince Andrew, who was born in February 1960.
Royal Christmas cards are an appealing way to add Royal signatures to your collection, and this is a particularly good example.
